Gam Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition by Romulo Cesar as part of our Studio Series, programmed on a single wall behind the main gallery space.

In his work Romulo Cesar creates a slowed down, focused and fluid conception of time that goes against our everyday, anxious, scheduled, fragmented and distracted sense of time. Cesar employs painting as an expression of the desire for alternate timeframes and offers thisexperience to viewers. His work also engages with modernist concerns of flat images but problematizes these through a hybrid approach, including the use of new technologies, mixed media, occasional references to illusionistic depth, and to the abstract yet real aspects of electronic images such as scanned lines.

Romulo Cesar was born in 1981 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he attended the Fine Arts School at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His work is influenced by technology, merging a variety of mediums with emphasis on hybrid approaches to painting. His work has been shown in Brazil, the United States and Canada. He is currently living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia.
